Activities
Trancoso
Trancoso is located on a foothill from where it is possible to see beautiful beaches, cliffs, rivers and coconut groves. It is 26km far from Porto Seguro when accesed by unpaved road. The temperatures are very pleasant, thanks to a cool ocean breeze most of the year. Besides the natural beauties, the town has also a great cultural and historical legacy to offer to tourists.

The town used to be a small village founded by the Jesuits, who imposed their habits on the local people. Thanks to this domination, the city has a very specific architecture with a church surrounded by houses built very close to each other, forming a big square called "Quadrado", which is one of the most valuable historical sites on the Discovery Coast.
Porto Seguro
Porto Seguro is the most bustling beach village of South Bahia. In the past it was an isolated fisher’s village, but since the 1970 the village changed tremendously. Ninety kilometres of beach, riffs, lagoons and palm tree forests are attracting many people. Down at the beach shows and dancing parties are organised in the dancing- and beach pavilions.
Porto Seguro is located in the state of Bahia. The nature surrounding Porto Seguro is very well preserved. Beaches, bays, coves, countless rivers and streams, stand out in the landscape outlined by the green of the coconut palm woods and the Atlantic Forest.
The beaches of Porto Seguro were discovered during the seventies by young people and became since then more popular each year.
The calm sea and the beaches are protected by coral reefs: Itacimirim, Mutá, Mundaí and Taperapuã. Recife de Fora, a coral structure that forms swimming pools of crystal waters in the low tide, is worth a visit.
The bustling centre of Porto Seguro is
attracting many tourists.
The “Passarela do Álcool” (“Alcohol Walk”) is the largest Open Mall in Bahia. Here you will find clothes, shoes, crafts, drinks and liquors, typical food and much more. The Alcohol Walk starts to get busy about 6:00 pm o'clock until late. At the beach, one of the most famous dance pavilions is Axé Moi (Taperapuã beach).
Arraial D'Ajuda
Arraial D'Ajuda lies on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in southern Bahia. This tropical paradise was first discovered by hippies in the early 70's, a post-Woodstock generation that traveled the world and found in Arraial an alternative way of life with new values. These same people are now the owners of the friendly, rustic inns that are so common in town, many of which were built as extensions of their own homes.
The streets of the town are unpaved, and lined with small, rustic inns and charming restaurants, that blend perfectly with the town’s carefree ambience. It’s as easy to find a Japanese sushi as it is to taste one of Bahia’s famous seafood stews known as moquecas. A pedestrian district known as "Broadway" is a must in Arraial with its many bars and restaurants where tables are set up right on the sidewalk. The variety of foods available is almost as great as the variety of music.
From high on top of the cliff on which Arraial is located, there is a panoramic view of the Discovery Coast, and the town’s unique charm brings together people from all over the world, especially the international jet set, who have adopted Arraial as a home away from home.
The daily routine in Arraial is completely out of the ordinary. The shops only open in the end of the afternoon and close at about midnight. People dress very informally and it’s considered completely normal to go shopping in a bikini or even to go to a nightclub wearing shorts. And just when you think the town is settling down for the night, the party is just beginning with luaus on the beach and dancing until the early hours of the morning.
Caraíva
Caraíva is a beautiful place. It is a village located inside of a Pataxó indigenous reservation between the river and the sea. Some people think it is an island, but they make a mistake, because it is a peninsula.
If you stay in Trancoso, you have to visit Caraíva.
Scuba diving
The Brazilian coastline is about 8,000 kilometres long, and there is still no exact idea of the rivers that are suitable for diving. But from any perspective this is a world of water in which to dive headfirst and allow yourself to drift. At times like these the body is an island, urrounded by water on all sides and given over to the beauty and mystery of the underwater liquid world of Brazil.
